this carpet stretches out like a purple scarf
pulled from a bag
someone had something to do with sewing the scarf
neon now wrapped around the lamp base
someone unrolled the rug
& in its middle is a country

two people have to work
coordinating their efforts
to roll it back up again
humans make brazen noises
in the direction of each other's heads
their muscular backs are built so
through constant interaction
with their own environment
for example, some rooms
are full of tightly rolled rugs
kept wound up in a series of stacked
& heavy, immovable piles
you spend your entire childhood
climbing over these mountains
singing at the peaks & carrying on
even through the valleys so
