syrup of water, where do you lead?
with spoonbills turning into platypus, turning-
or whale into rabbit, tortoise into tarantula-
my dream dark grey blue
a whispered past and some sudden future
all of the time with the water
running off to some distant relief
of mist and shades, shore grasses for
shorebirds and frogs to speak under
all of those animals swimming
turning into each other as we talked
"i housed inside of me every future"
from that brink of land in every sense
over and yet under a placid lake of
still rushing water
"i turned out fine"
your face turned back from ages to me
with "would you care to"
and fish crammed in between
atoms of water rushing off still
to some place, ever spilling off
we were watching somehow
from a bit of land; all of these animals
swimming on
turning into each other
my dream rewound, our bodies clear
"you wend the short loop," ha-ha
little laugh you knew i'd been in
the water and had swum to a
brink of peninsula a shred of land amid
torrents of water dense with life rewound
you forgave me then and
forgave me with a smile and
we watched the animals coursing on
we were somehow stopped and able
to watch them how they looked
just beneath the surface of the water
with spoonbills turning into platypus, turning-
or whale into rabbit, tortoise into tarantula-
my dream dark grey blue
a whispered past and some sudden future
all of the time with the water
running off to some distant relief
of mist and shades, shore grasses for
